Caserta Royal Palace guided tour
This former royal residence was built for the Bourbon Kings of Naples and was completed in 1845 after almost 100 years of construction. The 1,200-room palace was one of the largest built in Europe during the 18th century, and in 1997 it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known as the “Italian Versailles”, the palace also attracts visitors for its remarkable fountains, waterfalls and gardens. An integral aspect that shows the majesty and beauty of the Royal Palace of Caserta is its wonderful Park. It is a typical example of an Italian garden: wide lawns, squared flowerbeds and, above all, a triumph of water games (dancing water fountains).
Along the central axis, basins, fountains and waterfalls, decorated with large sculptural groups, pass one after another. The result is a spectacular effect of great impact that reaches its peak with the Great Waterfall.
Then, the English Garden opens itself up to its beholder’s eye, and bursting with indigenous and exotic plants, including the wonderful Cedars of Lebanon.
